In a situation which has echoes around the country, the Advocate General for the State of Chhattisgarh Satish Chandra Verma has put himself under quarantine after his deputy attended a wedding ceremony where several  guests who had recently returned from abroad were present. The ceremony took place on  March 22 and around 200 invitees turned up. Four of the guests had returned from foreign trips.

Two days later, the Deputy Advocate General. Hamida Siddiqui, attended a meeting at the Advocate General’s office where around 14 other lawyers were present. She was at the meeting for approximately 20 minutes, without disclosing her recent social engagement.

Once her presence at the wedding function became known, Verma and his team of 14 lawyers put themselves under self quarantine at their respective homes. Senior government officials and top police officers have been informed and efforts are on to track down the other guests and ensure they are free from signs of the coronavirus.
