Appointment of 5 additional judges of Madras High Court as permanent judges cleared by Central Goverment

The Central government has given clearance to the appointment of five additional judges of Madras High Court as permanent judges of the Court.

The tweet by the Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju informed about the development.

The five judges who have been made permanent are:

1.Justice Sundaram Srimathy;

2.Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy;

3.Justice R Vijaykumar;

4.Justice Mohammed Shaffiq;

5.Justice J Sathya Narayana Prasad.

The Supreme Court Collegium had, on February 15, recommended that the five additional judges to be made permanent.

The names of the five judges as per the Collegium resolution published on the website of the Supreme Court, were recommended by the Madras High Court Collegium on November 22 for appointment as permanent judges and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Governor had concurred with the recommendation.

The Madras High Court has been functioning with 54 judges, which has a sanctioned strength of 75 judges , a vacancy position of 21.
