Arvind Kejriwal announces free medical, life insurance for lawyers up to Rs 10 lakh

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced free medical and life insurance for practicing lawyers. Every lawyer will be given medical insurance up to Rs 5 lakh and life insurance up to Rs 10 lakh. The chief minister has also announced that E-libraries and creches will be started in all court premises.

Kejriwal said, “There were some longstanding demands of lawyers that we had promised to fulfil. We had set aside Rs 50 crore for their welfare, a committee was set up to decide how to spend it. The committee had made four demands, the cabinet has accepted all of them.”

These announcements come in the wake of Delhi assembly elections as the current assembly’s tenure will expire on the February 20, 2020.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has announced a host of social welfare policies in the last couple of months. Ranging from huge reduction in water bills, massive cuts in electricity tariff to free bus rides for women.

On the fourth anniversary of the AAP government, Kejriwal had claimed that his four-year-old government had completed more projects that Congress and BJP could together do in all the years they were at the helm of operations in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the BJP has time and again dubbed the AAP’s announcements as “election gimmicks”.
