CBDT Chairman Sushil Chandra was on Thursday appointed election commissioner. Chandra will join the three-member poll panel comprising Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election commissioner Ashok Lavasa.
Chandra will fill up the post left vacant after former Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat demitted office last year.
Chandra joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in 1980 after graduating from IIT Roorkee. He is the second IRS officer who has joined Election Commission after T S Krishnamurthy who later on became Chief Election Commissioner.
