Narada sting case: Charges include criminal conspiracy, undue gratification

Using the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the CBI has levelled serious charges of criminal conspiracy and charges of public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration against certain members of Parliament, members of legislative assembly, ministers and a police officer of the West Bengal government.

Having taken up the investigation into several MPs and politicians in West Bengal at the order of the Calcutta High Court (ratified and extended by the Supreme Court—the probe agency had been given a one-month time frame), primarily related the Narada News sting video case, the agency has levelled rather serious allegations, including 120b of the Indian Penal Code (criminal conspiracy) as well as Section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration) & 13(2) read with 13(1) (a) & (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against  them.

The CBI conducted the preliminary enquiry into the said allegations in time and its inquiry revealed prima facie material for the registration of a Regular Case (FIR) under appropriate sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and IPC.

Further investigations are continuing.
