No high court can entertain any more petitions in this regard

The Supreme Court bench of Justices Prafulla C Pant and Deepak Gupta on June 12 set aside the May 24 Madras High Court (Madurai bench) stay on the declaration of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) results and ordered that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) should declare the results.

The apex court took a serious view of the distress caused to students in the delay and said: “High courts shouldn’t have interfered as it affects the schedule of the admission.”

The court also said that the counseling process should start.

The bench has said that no high court should entertain any petition in this regard.

The petitioners had said that the stay was needed as the question paper in English and in vernacular were not the same. The counsel for students from Gujarat submitted that the Gujarati paper was more difficult than the one in English.

Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh said that uniform question paper does not mean the same question paper. The difficulty should be same. Which means that the question papers are similar and not identical.
