Delhi HC Extends Time For Panel Probing Lawyer-Police Clashes In Tiz Hazari

The Delhi High Court on Monday has given the ‘Judicial Inquiry Commission’ more time till 31st December 2020 to complete its probe in the matter of clash between Advocates and Delhi Police at Tis Hazari Court Complex on 2nd November 2019.

The Judicial Inquiry Commission headed by Retired Justice S.P. Garg sent a report to the High Court informing that they were unable to examine all the witnesses due to the Lockdown for the containment of the COVID-19 Outbreak.

The Delhi High Court on 3rd November took suo-moto cognizance of the incident involving police officials and lawyers engaging in a brawl at Tis Hazari Court complex on 2nd November over some parking issue further a Cop allegedly opened fired and this lead to burning of vehicles.

A vehicle of the Delhi Police was set ablaze by a mob of angry lawyers. Lawyers later protested in the court premises on the breach committed by the police personnel and also declared a strike. One lawyer was taken to a hospital after sustaining a bullet injury in the incident.

The report submitted before the court today informed that the commission has examined 124 witnesses to date and many more are yet to be examined.

The Court has further directed to provide protection to the lawyers concerning the FIRs filed in connection to the incident until the inquiry is going on.
