The Delhi High Court has given compulsory retirement to Additional Sessions Judge in Patiala House court Raj Kapoor who granted bail to Unitech promoters in April.
Delhi Judge Raj Kapoor had, on April 10, granted bail to Unitech promoters namely Ramesh Chandra Ajay Chandra and Sanjay Chandra. Kapoor granted the relief to the Chandras on a personal bond of Rs 70 lakh each and one surety of like amount. The court had also asked them to appear before the Supreme Court which is hearing various project-related matters involving Unitech and has already summoned the accused.
He was relieved from his post yesterday by order of Delhi high court acting chief justice Gita Mittal.
The decision was reportedly taken in a full court meeting of the Delhi high court last week, in which three lower court judges’ service records were reviewed.
Kapoor was the only one of the three reviewed judges who was asked to retire in this round.
Kapoor had on 10 April granted three months interim bail to the promoters of Unitech, one day after they were arrested for alleged cheating and fraud in a Gurgaon-based real estate project.
