The Telengana Chief Minister  K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday ordered the immediate constitution of a fast track court to try the accused in the sensational rape and murder of a veterinarian in Hyderabad last week.

The Chief Minister has instructed officials for a speedy trial and severe punishment of the accused in the matter.

The dastardly nature of the rape and murder of the 27 year-old has shocked the nation. The four accused —- Mohammad Pasha, Jollu Naveen Kumar, Jollu Shiva and Chennakeshavulu—- working as lorry drivers and cleaners were apprehended by the police on Friday.

The Chief Minister also asked officials not to assign night duty to police women as “human sharks” roamed the streets. The resident neighbours of the aggrieved family locked the gates, refusing entry to any outsiders. They held placards with slogan – ‘No Politician, No Media, No police, No outsiders’. They further raised slogans saying they wanted justice for the 27 year old victim – not sympathy, but action by police.

Social media flooded with hashtags remembering her last week soon after the police found the charred remains of the body under a bridge in Shadnagar.

‘Hyderabad’s Nirbhaya,’ as the late doctor has now come to be known,  was raped and killed by the four who approached her on the pretext of fixing the punctured tyre of her scooter.

Governor Soundararajan has promised that all things constitutionally and legally possible will be done, including daily hearings in the trial.
