Karnataka HC To Commence Limited Functioning From June 1

The High Court of Karnataka has taken a decision to commence limited functioning of the High Court at the Principal Bench at Bengaluru and the Benches at Dharwad and Kalaburagi with effect from June 1, 2020. The High Court has also taken a decision to start limited functioning of all the District Courts and Trial Courts in the State of Karnataka.

According to the notification issued regarding recommencement of the Courts, the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that will be applicable to the functioning of the Courts from June 1st will be published in the official website of the High Court of Karnataka and the District Courts on May 26.

A bench of Chief Justice Abhay Sreeniwas Oka and other senior Judges of the High Court of Karnataka will be addressing the office bearers of all the Bar Associations in the State on May 27.

All the queries pertaining to the Standard Operating Procedure can be forwarded by the Bar Associations to the Registrar General through the Principal District and Sessions Judges and Principal Judges. According to the notice, the last date for submitting such queries is May 27, 2020.

The High Court had earlier through its notification also notified that all Benches of the Karnataka High Court, district courts and tribunals in the state would remain closed till June 6th in wake of the extended COVID-19 Lockdown. The High Court had also notified constitution of benches to hear the “extremely urgent matters” by Chief Justice, who were scheduled to commence hearing of matters for a week from May 18 onwards.

The High Court took the decision of recommencement of its hearing on May 22, and notified the same on May 23rd.
