Sarmishtha Chakraborty of West Bengal wants to terminate her pregnancy in the 23rd week because of deformities in the foetus that doctors have found, and she has approached the Supreme Court.

The court’s bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul wanted a medical opinion. On June 23, the standing counsel for West Bengal said that they have already formed the medical board to test the petitioner.

Dr Arati Biswas will head the team. The petitioner will be medically tested on June 25 and the matter will be listed on June 29. The report of the medical team will be given to the court in a sealed cover.
