Madras High Court judge SM Subramaniam donates one month salary to workers hit by coronavirus slowdown

Justice SM Subramaniam of the Madras High Court has decided to contribute his one month’s salary of Rs 2.25 lakhs to aid the workers employed in the unorganised sector, who could have lost their earnings due to the industrial slowdown owing to coronavirus outbreak.

A cheque with the same amount will be handed over to the Tamil Nadu State Chief Secretary today.

Recently, a Madras High Court Bench comprising of Justices N Kirubakaran and R Hemalatha raised concern for the poor and the shelter-less claiming that they are likely to be the worst hit during the time of crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday, the Bench directed that the State Government to ensure that there is food and shelter for the poor workers and shelterless persons during the 14-hour nationwide “Janata curfew” which is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
