Modi, Naidu and CJI Gogoi greets nation on Constitution Day

On the occasion of Constitution Day today, judges and various leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu greeted the nation.

Naidu said in a series of tweets: “I felicitate countrymen on the occasion of Constitution Day, today. On this day, in 1949, the conscientious people of India gave themselves this Constitution prepared under able guidance of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

“It is now our utmost national obligation that we live earnestly by the letter and spirit of the Constitution in our personal and community life. We must uphold integrity in our personal and public life, have trust and honour in constitutional bodies and processes…”

CJI Ranjan Gogoi said: “The constitution has become an integral part of the lives of people. It’s the voice of the marginalized and it guides us in the moment of crisis. Today may not be the time to celebrate but to test, how far we have come since 1947.”

Modi also tweeted: “On Constitution Day we recall with pride the stellar contribution of the greats who served in our Constituent Assembly. We are proud of our Constitution and reiterate our commitment to uphold the values enshrined in it.”

Constitution Day is celebrated every year on November 26 to commemorate the day on which the Constitution of India was adopted. Then after on January 26, 1950, finally Constitution of India came into force.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee also took to the Twitter and urged the citizens to “protect the spirit of the holy book”.

“We must do everything we can to protect the spirit of our Constitution – Sovereignty, Socialism, Secularity, Democratic Republic, Justice, Liberty, Fraternity and Equality,” Banerjee said in a tweet.
