Paperwork completed, Jaitley-Kejriwal case arguments to begin from November 15

The requisite paperwork in the defamation case that Union finance minister Arun Jaitley has filed against some Aam Aadmi Party members, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was almost completed at the Delhi High Court on Tuesday (September 26).

Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal has ordered that all parties will have to file three pages of synopsis of the case on the next day of hearing, which is November 15. That day the arguments will start. Notices were issued.

The matter pertains to the criminal defamation filed against Kejriwal and others by Jaitley. Kejriwal has contended that there are three sets of allegations against him in the complaint filed by Jaitley, do not constitute an offence punishable under Section 500/34 IPC against him.

On the last date of hearing (May 22), neither the certified copy of the impugned order had been filed nor was there any application seeking exemption.

Advocate Nitya Rama Krishnan, appearing for Kejriwal, stated that the judgment of Raghav Chadha which Jaitley’s counsel Sidharth Luthara was submitting was not applicable in the present petition.
