Parliament invites views and suggestions on The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019

The Joint Parliamentary Committee has invited views and suggestions on the Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019. The notification for the same has been uploaded on the official twitter handle of Lok Sabha.

The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2018 was taken down last year after the concerns raised by stakeholders like Google, Facebook, CISCO, Master Card, Amazon, Twitter, etc. in a meeting held between high-level US trade delegation and various ministries including IT and commerce.

The latest – the 2019 bill – has been referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee of both the houses by the Lok Sabha, headed by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi for the examination and report of the Bill.

Two copies of the submission for the views and suggestions on the Bill may be sent to the committee on Director, Lok Sabha Secretariat, Room No. 014 Ground Floor, Parliament House Annexe, New Delhi- 110001 and the same may be sent through email at jpc-datalaw@sansad.nic.in or at mrs.mlekhi@sasand.nic.in by three weeks from 22.01.2020 i.e. publication of the notification.

The committee is also providing an opportunity to the stakeholders to put-up their points before the committee and if a stakeholder wishes to appear before the committee they are supposed to indicate the same while submitting their responses. The decision on the appearance will be taken by the committee itself.
