PIL filed in Supreme Court regarding the agitation against the farmers

New Delhi (ILNS): A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction to frame strict rules and form guidelines against the agitation and procession by political parties or any organization religious or non-religious all over India.

The plea filed by a trust named Hindu Dharma Parishad through its Advocate Narender Kumar Verma seeking implementation of the farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 in No. 20 of 2020 and farmers produce trade and commerce (Promotion and facilitation) Act, 2020 No.21 of 2020 in India.

The plea alleges that “India is going through an agrarian crisis and the farmers who have been involved in one of the most meaningful livelihoods on earth are struggling to make ends meet. The Cauvery delta was once a place of prosperity but has been facing many challenges now.”

The petitioner has further sought a direction to impose a ban on order against to those agitations or procession in favour or against farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 in No.20 of 2020 and farmers produce trade and commerce (Promotion and facilitation) Act, 2020 No.21 of 2020 till this Hon’ble Apex Court decision.

The Parishad has also asked for a direction putting up a ban on the electronic telecommunications internet, Facebook, Watsapp, telegram, posters, flex banner, or any other electronic transfer communication regarding any statement or video’s of farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 in No.20 of 2020 and farmers produce trade and commerce (Promotion and facilitation) Act, 2020 No.21 of 2020 propaganda throughout India pending disposal of the case before the Apex Court.

The plea further stated that “Newspaper and media reports claimed that there were a total of 13 farmers who have committed suicide over the last 2 months in the Delta and surrounding districts of Tamil Nadu”.
