New Delhi: Former President Pranab Mukherjee remains on ventilator and in critical condition, following a brain surgery on Monday to remove a blood clot. Mukherjee, 84, who had fallen down at his residence, was rushed to hospital where it was found that he was also COVID positive.
His situation deteriorated this morning. According to the Army’s Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital, where the former President is, he has shown no signs of improvement.
His daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee, a Congress leader, has sent out a prayer, saying: “May God do whatever is best for him.”
She said her father has fallen critically ill just a year after he received the ‘Bharat Ratna’. “Last year August 8 was one of the happiest day for me as my dad received the Bharat Ratna,” she said. “Exactly a year later on August 10, he fell critically ill.”
Pranab Mukherjee, a former finance minister in the UPA era, was President of India between 2012 and 2017.
