President Ram Nath Kovind suspends DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Tyagi with immediate effect

New Delhi (ILNS): As per Ministry of Education officials, Delhi University Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Tyagi has been placed under suspension on the President’s orders. Yogesh Tyagi was appointed as Vice Chancellor of Delhi University on March 10, 2016.

The President of India is the ex-officio chief, called Visitor, of Delhi University.

The order further stated that Tyagi as Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi failed to discharge the duties and responsibilities under the Delhi University Act. “Despite clear message from the ministry to fill up the teaching posts in a time bound manner, the process to fill the vacancies has been delayed,” states the order.

“All the orders issued by or issued with the approval of Yogesh Tyagi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, during period of his absence on medical ground after Pro Vice Chancellor P.C. Joshi assumed the charge of Vice Chancellor on July 17, 2020, are set aside and to be treated as null and void,” said the order.

On Tuesday, President Ram Nath Kovind allowed an inquiry against the vice-chancellor who was accused of “misconduct” by the ministry.
