Provide immediate relief to riot victims at Mustafabad relief camp says Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Delhi government and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation to provide accommodation to the riot affected persons in community shelters and night shelters operated by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) in the North-East District, Delhi.

Acting upon a plea, the division bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul & Justice Talwant Singh further directed the state government to ensure the provision of food, water and medical aid to riot victims. And in addition to this directed the Delhi government and EDMC to individually and jointly, ensure that sanitation, cleanliness and hygiene is properly and regularly maintained at the locations/centres/shelters, where the riot victims are to be housed amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

The petitioner Shaikh Mujtaba Farooq filed a petition under section 482 of CrPC before the Delhi High Court wherein Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves appearing for the petitioner prayed that the relief camp at the Idgah, Mustafabad may be re-opened and all the facilities of food, drinking water, sanitation and medical care may be provided to the victims who have been rendered homeless due to anti- CAA riots and further prayed to direct the government to publish in the newspaper that the Idgah relief camp is open and any person seeking refuge is welcomed.

The High Court has issued notice to all the parties and sought replies from them in a short span of time and has put the matter for further hearing on 30th March, 2020.
