Punjab and Haryana HC issues notice to Haryana govt in case of fake MNREGA job cards

The petitioner said that there should have been an inquiry under the Panchayati Raj Act in this case, which has not been done

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice to the Haryana Government in the case of fake MNREGA job cards in Punhana of Haryana when the work was done by JCB instead of labourers.

The case is related to Gheera Gram Panchayat against which one Zakir filed a petition in the High Court through Advocate Mohammad Khalid.

The petition alleged that since the panchayat elections, the sarpanch has been putting the money of the public in his pocket with the help of other officials. The work is being done only on paper and money is being grabbed. Be it soil pouring in school or link road work, fake job cards were issued under MNREGA and fraudulently opened bank accounts and lakhs of rupees have been extracted from it.

The petitioner said that after the complaint about the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) called the sarpanch again and again but he did not appear. The SDM then asked the CEO of Zilla Parishad to investigate but to no avail. Later an FIR was registered in this case but sarpanch got bail.

The petitioner alleges that since then no attempt was made to recover money from the sarpanch. The petitioner said that there should have been an inquiry under the Panchayati Raj Act in this case, which has not been done. Therefore, the petitioner has approached the High Court.
