Rajasthan High Court disposes of PIL seeking legislation against online gambling, betting

The Rajasthan High Court has disposed of a PIL seeking directions to the state government to frame appropriate legislation for curbing of the menace of online gambling and betting.

The PIL has been filed by Resource Institute For Human Rights.

Karan Tiberwal, Counsel for the petitioner, submitted that various representations have been made to the state government for framing of an appropriate legislation or amendment.

On the other hand, the Counsel for the State apprised the Court that draft of legislation has been prepared and the matter was still pending before the appropriate authority.

In view of the above disclosure made by the Counsel for the State, the Division Bench of Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Vinod Kumar Bharwani was not inclined to keep this matter pending, but to dispose it of, keeping it open for the state to consider the matter.

The Court only placed on record the statement of counsel for the state that the state has prepared a draft bill and the matter was under consideration.
