Stop Classification of COVID cases as “Tablighi cases” by Delhi govt. : PIL in Delhi HC

A PIL filed in Delhi High Court has sought restrain on the classification of positive COVID19 cases as “tabhlihi jamati” or “Masjid Markaz” cases by the Arvind Kejriwal Government and his administration. The plea alleges that such classification leads to religious profiling.

Advocate M M Kashyap in his plea, alleged that the Delhi CM, has been deliberately tweeting coronavirus cases linked to the Jamaat congregation under a separate caption—“Masjid Markaz”.

The petition has held this classification responsible for “communal antagonism” and perpetration of hate against a particular community.

The petitioner has also contended that Kejriwal has violated guildelines by World Health Organisation (WHO), which specifically advises to refrain from any communal or religious profiling of Coronavirus cases.

The petitioner has drawn the court’s attention to the fact that the communal atmosphere in Delhi was already tense due to riots in North East Delhi, and such reporting of corona cases would worsen the situation.

Total number of positive corona cases in India has reached 13,387 today. Delhi has reported more than 1600 cases.

The Tabhlighi Jamaat event has caused a huge spike in corona cases across India. It has been called the “Super spreader” event for India, which has caused the spread of the novel coronavirus to various states in the country.
