Personal barbs by news anchor Arnab Goswami and his news channel Republic TV against Congress MP and renowned author Shashi Tharoor have come in for a Rs 2 crore libel suit by the MP.

The channel had allegedly aired damaging reportage regarding the death of Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar which the MP thought was insinuating and would hinder the progress of the investigation into the death of Pushkar. The defamation suit was filed against Goswami and his channel at the Delhi High Court on May 26.

Tharoor also appealed to the court to restrain the channel from airing any more shows on the death of Pushkar till Delhi Police completes its investigation.

Tharoor has said in his plea: “Such a broadcast clearly has the potential of adversely impacting the ongoing investigation into the death.”
