West Bengal Coal Scam: Special court sentences three years of imprisonment to 3 HEPL employees

A Special court has sentenced three employees of a preform to a three year imprisonment as they were found guilty of criminal conspiracy.


These employees were also charges of embezzlement and cheating the exchequer by misrepresenting facts to acquire a coal block in West Bengal.

The three who are been accused were working with a firm called Himachal EMTA Power Ltd (HEPL) private limited.

Special Judge Sanjay Bansal has imposed a fine of Rs two lakh each on the three convicts.

According to the court the prima facie evidence suggests that the accused have committed the offence under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of IPC.

As a fine,the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on Himachal EMTA Power Ltd in the case.

The court however has suspended the punishment for a 45 day period of 45 days for enabling the convicts to appeal against their conviction before the Delhi High Court.

As per the Central bureau of Investigation this is the 12th conviction in coal scam cases . This was secured by the Prosecution Team appointed by the Supreme Court of India order dated 01.09.2014.
