Sagar Dhankhar murder case: Delhi Police name wrestler Sushil Kumar, 2 others in chargesheet

The police have named Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, one Praveen and one Rahul as accused in the chargesheet.

The Delhi Police filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Sagar Dhankhar murder case in a Delhi court on Tuesday.

The police have named Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, one Praveen and one Rahul as accused in the chargesheet.

In his statement to police, Rahul said Sushil had opened fire at the dogs present in the stadium and even assaulted a fellow athlete hours before Dhankhar’s death.

Rahul said: “Following this, a wrestler named Vikas asked Sushil what happened? Sushil then attacked Vikas, snatching his phone and ran after him.” As per the police’s chargesheet, Sushil asked people accompanying him to beat Vikas till he was dead.

Praveen, who was allegedly involved in other heinous crimes including murder, said Sushil was hitting him with sticks at the time of the incident saying, “I am the goon of this area. How can you take possession of my flat?”

Sushil’s bodyguard Anil Dhiman said they beat Praveen with hockey sticks and baseball bats.

He said: “We wanted to kill Sagar Dhankhar and Jai Bhagwan because Sushil had asked us to do the same. Sushil was afraid that Sagar and Jai Bhagwan were working against him. Both were also gathering information about Sushil and posing a threat to Sushil, so Sushil wanted to kill both of them.”

The supplementary chargesheet filed against Sushil Kumar by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has been prepared on the basis of the statements of Sushil’s bodyguard Anil Dhiman and other accused.

Anil Dhiman, in a statement to the police on the incident that happened at Chhatrasal Stadium on May 5 last year, said he was working with Sushil Kumar since 2019. He used to look after both private and official work of Sushil.

Dhiman told that he was also with Sushil on the intervening night of May 4-5, 2021. That day Sushil had called several people to the basketball ground saying he had to “teach some people a lesson”.
