Ex-PSO gets death sentence for killing judge’s wife, son

A Haryana court on Friday sentenced a former personal security officer (PSO) to death for killing a judge’s wife and son, terming the murder as a rarest of rare crime.

Gurugram’s Additional Sessions Judge Sudheer Parmarhad had on Thursday convicted 32-year-old Mahipal Singh under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.

Singh, who was the PSO of then Gurugram Additional Sessions Judge Kishan Kant Sharma, had shot the ASJ’s wife, Ritu, and 18-year-old son, Dhruv, on October 13, 2018, with his service revolver in a fit of rage at a market in Sector 49 of Gurugram in broad daylight.

Ritu died on the spot while Dhruv passed away 10 days later.

The court took into account videos of shooting posted online, besides statements of over 60 people present at the shopping arcade.

The police had filed a charge sheet on December 26, 2018, and charges were framed on January 9 last year.
