Supreme Court Collegium recommends appointment of 7 judicial officers as judges of Madhya Pradesh High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of seven District Judges as judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The names recommended are:

– Roopesh Chandra Varshney;

– Anuradha Shukla;

– Sanjeev Sudhakar Kalgaonkar;

– Prem Narayan Singh;

– Achal Kumar Paliwal;

– Hirdesh; 

– Avnindra Kumar Singh.

As per the published resolution, the Collegium published on the website of the top court, on November 23, 2022, the Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh recommended the elevation of the above seven judicial officers as Judges of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.

The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Madhya Pradesh also endorsed the recommendations.

The file was received by the Supreme Court from Department of Justice on April 7, 2023.

The Collegium then consulted with the judges of the Supreme Court conversant with the affairs of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh.

Pursuant to the same, it decided to recommend all the seven candidates.

As on April 1, the Madhya Pradesh High Court which has a sanctioned strength of 53 judges is working with 31 judges, a vacancy position of 22.
