The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the batch of petitions seeking to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against stand-up comic Kunal Kamra over his derogatory tweets against the Supreme Court for granting bail to Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami by four weeks.
The comedian’s affidavit in response to pleas which seek contempt of court proceedings against him for various tweets are well-said and an eye-opener regarding judges and the dispensation of justice.
The complaint accuses Navika Kumar of making inherently defamatory statements and to cause serious harm to the reputation of the Complainant (ARG) by imputing behaviour incompatible with proper conduct and suggestions of involvement in improper activity.
Advocate Abad Ponda argued in the petition filed by Goswami seeking to restrain the magistrate from taking cognizance of the charge-sheet. Ponda informed the bench that he got a message that the magistrate has taken cognizance of the charge-sheet.
Republic TV Chief Executive Officer Vikas Khanchandani was arrested by Mumbai Police on Sunday in connection with the alleged television ratings manipulation case. He is the 13th person to be arrested in the case.
"Now are you willing to hold an inquiry to ascertain whether any money was collected by projecting that this is a project of the Government of Karnataka? Are you willing to hold an inquiry," the bench asked.
