The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a petition in July, challenging the 2019 notification that scrapped the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the early hearing of application challenging the constitutional validity of the Presidential order, which amended and rendered the provisions of Article 370 inoperative, stripping the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

On August 5, 2019, Jammu & Kashmir lost its statehood, its liberty, its political voice, its autonomy and its unique identity within the Indian Union.

The Apex Court said that the expression of opinions which are different from the opinion of the government cannot be called seditious.
