The Supreme Court on Thursday has allowed the special leave petition of the Centre against the Calcutta High Court's order setting aside the transfer of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) case against former West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay to Delhi.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj heard a Public Interest Litigation filed by Mangal Sardar related to setting up of the video conferencing facilities in different district courts in the State of West Bengal.

According to the Counsel for the Petitioner the work orders have been issued to the husband of the Pradhan violating the procedure and the rules and the money has been misappropriated.

While considering the PIL, the Calcutta High Court bench observed that the allegation which has been made in respect of entering the name of as many as 947 persons in the register of Unani practitioners without having any requisite qualification needs to be enquired into.

The Calcutta High Court recently disposed of a PIL alleging that the names of 197 beneficiaries have been left out in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin.

The Supreme Court has reserved its judgement in a plea filed by the Centre against the order passed by Calcutta High court which stopped the transfer of case concerning disciplinary proceedings against former West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay from West Bengal to Delhi.

Calcutta High Court directed the Counsel for the Eastern Railway to hand over a copy thereof to counsel for the petitioner and “it will be open to the counsel for the petitioner to point out by filing the appropriate material to show if all such steps have been taken on the spot”, said the Court.
