Supreme Court bench accepted the request of petitioner advocate Anindita aggrieved by non compliance of the order passed by then CJI Ranjan Gogoi and posted the matter of for hearing after vacation.

Justice Akil Kureshi, the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, retired on Sunday (March 6) from his office after serving the judiciary for 18 years. He was the senior-most High Court judge in the All-India seniority list of High Court judges. But unfortunately, he was not considered for elevation to the Supreme Court due to reasons best known to the Government and the Supreme Court Collegium.

The challenges before the chief justice of India are varied, starting with giving more teeth to the SC Collegium, ensuring more diversity on the apex court benches and taking urgent measures to restore the public trust in the judiciary. But he has the courage and commitment to take these head on.

The Supreme Court today dismissed as infructuous a plea seeking an in-house probe into alleged acts of "commission and omission" by former CJI Ranjan Gogoi during his tenure as Supreme Court judge.
