Custodial Death

The Calcutta High Court yesterday took suo motu cognisance of reports in some leading newspapers about the custodial death of a 15-year-old and directed the Birbhum police superintendent to file a report. The death happened in the Mallarpur area of the district.

Appeal says that it was a lack of any proper legal framework and the non-implementation of past SC orders that has led to this situation.

Mr. A. Raja, Member of Parliament Lok Sabha, and Politician from DMK Political Party, has written a letter to the Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah over the custodial death of one Jayaraj and Bennix, father-son duo at the Sathankulam Police Station in the Tuticorn District of Tamil Nadu.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has transferred the Sathankulam custodial death case to the central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation.

The High court of Madras has directed the Judicial Magistrate, Kovilpatti, to conduct an enquiry into the alleged custodial death of the Father-son duo in Thootukudi District of Tamil Nadu.
