An NGT report exposed the fact that the oilfield in Assam is operating without mandatory environmental clearances. It also said that a blowout has been spewing gas for 160 days now, impacting 10 km of eco-sensitive land.

The Gauhati High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the Assam forest department for failing to file an affidavit in connection with a public interest litigation on the grant of permission to Oil India Limited (OIL) to drill for hydrocarbons in the Dibru Saikhowa National Park.
