The pleas in Delhi High Court challenge the Information Technology Rules, 2021 as they set up a classification of news publishers & current affairs content as part of ‘digital media, & seek to regulate these news portals under Part III of the Rules by imposing Government oversight and a ‘Code of Ethics.

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (c) of sub-section (2) of section 79 and sub-section (2) of section 69A, read with sub-section (1) of section 87

Centre says Supreme Court should first take notice of digital media, which has a larger reach; News Broadcasters Association also says there are enough regulations in place for electronic and traditional media.
