New Delhi (ILNS): The Delhi High Court today dismissed a petition filed by Dr Prasannanshu against the procedure of appointment of Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University (NLU), Delhi.

Justice Jyoti Singh dismissed this plea challenging the procedure adopted by the selection committee.

The petitioner himself had applied for the post of Vice-Chancellor who had joined NLU Delhi in 2009 as an Associate Professor and later had been promoted to Professor in July 2015.

Senior Advocate Rajiv Bansal, with advocate Karan Suneja on behalf of the petitioner argued:

“That the Petitioner was not called, despite fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria, by the selection committee while other candidates were duly called for the post and hence the petitioner was not treated at par with the other candidates. Therefore, the fundamental right of right to quality of the Petitioner was violated which is enshrined under Article 14.”

The counsel further submitted that the selection committee has worked arbitrarily by not calling the Petitioner for interview for the said post.

Advocate Rajshekhar Rao appearing for NLU Delhi contended that the petitioner did not meet the eligibility criteria as defined in the advertisement issued on October 11, 2019.
