GNCTD Amendment Act

Supreme Court Special bench headed by the CJI NV Ramana was hearing a legal dispute between the Delhi Government and the Centre regarding control over administrative services in the national capital.

The Amendment Act has a provision of asking for a mandatory prior opinion of the Lieutenant Governor before taking any executive action is violative of Article 14 and arbitrary in nature.

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notice on a plea, challenging the constitutional validity of the GNCTD Amendment Act, which has enhanced the powers of the Lt Governor in Delhi over the elected government.

The bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh today issued a notice, wanting a response from respondents in 4 weeks.
