The plea was filed in the Apex Court,which calls for constitution of a Special Investigation Team which should identify the perpetrators who are involved in the alleged genocide of Hindus and Sikhs in Jammu which were living in Kashmir during 1989-2003.
The Court allowed the petition on the ground of the woman being an adult and said, "the woman has the right to live her life on her own terms." The Court also quashed an FIR lodged against the couple in Kotwali Dehat Police Station of District Etah.
Under the Indian Independence Act, this strategic district, which included Hindu majority Pathankot, was provisionally included in Pakistan. Though it was later awarded to India, it has never been away from the neighbour’s gaze.
