The Central government on Wednesday defended the legality of the new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, in its counter affidavit filed in reply to a challenge to the constitutional validity of the new IT Rules.

A single Delhi High Court Bench of Justice Rekha Palli granted time to the petitioner and the Central Government to file their respective affidavits in relation to Twitter’s compliance of IT Rules 2021.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya appearing on behalf of Twitter India informed that Twitter has made permanent appointments to the post of Chief Compliance Officer, Resident Grievance Officer and Nodal Contact Person as mandated by the IT Rules 2021.

Twitter India submitted through its senior counsel that it intends to fully comply with the IT Rules 2021 and is taking expeditious steps to appoint officers on a permanent basis.

Twitter Inc. has also claimed that the claim of the petitioner in Delhi High Court should be rendered infructuous since he hasn’t made authors of those tweets as party respondents from whom he is aggrieved.
