ILNS: The Supreme Court on Tuesday has decided to extend the limitation period for filing of petitions, applications, suits and appeals under all general and special laws before courts and tribunals, in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The final order regarding this, however, should follow with a few language variations, following suggestions by Attorney General K.K. Venugopal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, said a Bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Surya Kant and AS Bopanna.

The Court directed the SG to send the suggestions in writing. The Attorney General was requested to send his note to the SG.

The Court’s decision came on an application moved by the Supreme Court Advocates-On-Record Association (SCAORA), seeking the extension. The CJI said that the extension will be till July 15, on “the same lines as that we earlier did”.

That was when A.G. Venugopal asked for a few changes in the language.
