Gauhati High Court division bench disposed of a Suo Moto Public Interest Litigation (PIL) based on the alarming letter addressed by Manish Goswami, Advocate, Supreme Court, against the police atrocities, which took place at Paltan Bazar, Guwahati City on 17.03.2022.
The Gauhati High Court directed the State Government to place the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report before the Public Accounts Committee to verify the contentions raised by the petitioner as regards embezzlement of large amounts of public money meant for public purposes.
Considering the nature of the case, Gauhati High Court division bench is of the view that the present PIL can be disposed of at this stage without issuing formal notice to the respondents.
While considering the PIL , Gauhati High Court division bench is of the view that because of the improved Covid situation, the matter may not be of much public importance at this stage, though certain issue of great importance of individual freedom is involved.
According to the PIL in Gauhati High Court, under the law, a Transgender Welfare Board and a Transgender Cell are liable to be established in the State of Assam.
