The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant any further relief to a man, who was convicted for murdering a person posted as corporal at Air Force Station Bhisiana and shredded his body into pieces more than four years back, and whose death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.
The Allahabad High Court dismissed the criminal appeal against the sentence of life imprisonment of a man accused of unnatural sex and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Kanpur. The court observed that there is sufficient evidence against the accused for the charge of murder.
The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on an appeal filed by a convict sentenced to life imprisonment almost 20 years back, challenging the judgment of the high court which had upheld life imprisonment and directed him to surrender along with other co-convicts in the year 2019.
The Bench has upheld the punishment of Life Imprisonment with a fine of Rupees 1,000 under section 376(1) of Indian Penal Code but set aside the same punishment under section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
