The Supreme Court observed that guidelines issued by the Union have in no way made any genuine progress with regards to setting up halfway homes for those cured of mental illness as indicated by the State government and directed the Government to monitor the progress & apprise the court periodically.

The Supreme Court on Thursday while upholding the conviction of a man accused of Rape of a mentally ill girl has said a person suffering from a mental disorder or mental sickness deserves special care, love, and affection and is not to be exploited.

The Supreme Court today has issued a notice on a plea seeking direction to all Insurance companies to provide medical insurance for treatment of mental illness and on the same basis as is available for the treatment of physical illness.
