A bench led by the Chief Justice Dipankar Datta & Justice G.S. Kulkarni has noted that there is no categorical prohibition imposed by the Central Government for the States to undertake a door-to-door vaccination program, for the elderly and disabled citizens.

The plea also wants this facility to be extended to patients waiting for major and minor medical procedures and surgeries etc. during the lockdown period.

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking directions to Centre, Delhi govt for deciding upon the beneficiaries of Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday was informed by the Centre that once it notified the National Policy on Rare Diseases, the individual cases can be dealt with accordingly and the patients can be referred to the notified centers in the different institutes.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, not to keep the finalisation and notification of the Draft Health Policy for Rare Diseases, 2020 pending indefinitely.

The affidavit has been filed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stating that the public health and hospital is the primary and exclusive responsibility of each state.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has introduced a draft National Policy for Rare Diseases 2020 on the direction of the Delhi High Court in response to a plea filed seeking free treatment of rare diseases.
