The Kerala High Court has directed the state police and the Enforcement officials to take strict action against all those people, who flout the guidelines of Road Safety Policy, especially by overloading their vehicles or using a government nameplate without authorisation.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has recently disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a petitioner against the overloading of vehicles, especially trucks, that are supplying material to thermal power plants.  

A Supreme Court bench of Justices L. Nageshwar Rao, BR Gavai and BV Nagarathna  dismissed a plea filed by Bajaj Auto against AAP government's  decision to issue over 4,200 permits to electric auto rickshaws citing how locals in Delhi are adversely affected by air pollution.

Supreme Court division bench while hearing a Civil Appeal filed by Rasmita Biswal & others has directed for the establishment of Motor Vehicles Appellate Tribunals for disposal of cases related to payment of compensation to the victims of road accidents. 

The petition was filed in the Delhi High Court by Utkarsh Trivedi, a fourth-year student of National Law University, Odisha, through his advocate Satyam Singh Rajput.

Justice Vivek Singh Thakur of Himanchal Pradesh High Court bench noted that respondent-accused was driving vehicle under influence of alcohol, prosecution has relied upon medical evidence as well as evidence of Dr. Amita Bhatnagar.

In an effort to speed up compensation to victims and their families, the Court is planning to take the digital route to improve the administration of justice.

New Delhi (ILNS): In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delhi Government has extended the validity of all documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 and the Central Motor vehicle rules, 1989 till December 31.

The Supreme Court has observed that courts assess the extent of disabilities taking into account the realities of life, rather than adopting a stereotypical or myopic approach.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday has allowed the appeal filed by Savitha, a housewife, who survived motor accident more than a decade ago but it left her partially disabled. She has appealed against inadequacy of compensation granted to her in a motor accident case.
