A Mumbai court will pronounce on October 10, the quantum of sentence for artist Chintan Upadhyay and three others, who were convicted in the double murder case of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani.

Earlier on October 5, Additional Sessions Judge SY Bhosale of Mumbai had convicted Upadhyay, Shiv Kumar Rajbhar, Pradip Kumar Rajbhar and Vijay Kumar Rajbhar in the eight-old-old case.

As per the prosecution, Hema and Bhambani were allegedly smothered to death by Vidhyadhar Rajbhar on December 11, 2015, with the help of other accused, at the behest of Chintan Upadhyay.

A garbage collector discovered their bodies stuffed in cardboard boxes on December 12, 2015 in a nullah at Kandivali.

The artist was arrested on December 22, 2015. All others, except Vidhyadhar, were arrested later. Vidhyadhar is still absconding.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Chintan on September 17, 2021.

A local court in Mumbai has rejected the anticipatory bail application of businessman Raj Kundra, who was arrested last month for producing and uploading adult film content on mobile applications like Hotshots.

A Sessions Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Kundra in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) of 2020, alleging that certain online platforms were publishing obscene videos as part of their web series.

The order came days after the Bombay High Court dismissed the plea filed by Kundra, husband of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, continuing his remand to custody and subsequent orders of the Metropolitan Magistrate in another FIR in the porn film racket case.

The 2020 FIR was registered for offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to obscenity, the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act.

A few arrests were made in the case, including of actor Gehana Vashist, an employee in the tech company of Kundra, which owned the mobile application Hotshot of a tech start-up linked with Kundra. She was granted bail in April, 2021.

Kundra was summoned by the police when he purportedly submitted of not having links to the alleged offence, as he had exited the company. He also submitted to the police all relevant documents pertaining to the investments made and his exit from the company.

Citing these grounds in his application, Kundra approached the Sessions Court seeking pre-arrest bail, where he also assured of co-operating with the police for investigation.
