New Delhi (ILNS): The Delhi government has informed the Delhi High Court that during the three rounds of Sero-Surveillance it was found that Covid-19 was more prevalent among women belonging to the age group 18 to 49 years, as compared to those below 18 years and those who are above 50 years, of the same gender.

A divisional bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad noted that there is a need to enhance the focus on sample representativeness of the survey in Central, Northeast, and North Districts.

The petition was filed by advocate Rakesh Malhotra, seeking direction for conducting rapid testing on a large scale in Delhi for the identification of the COVID-19 infected people.

The bench informed: “(The) Expert Committee is actively involved in re-strategizing the testing capacity as also reviewing the overall strategy required to be followed by the Delhi Government.”

The bench noted that much emphasis has been laid on ramping up of tests through RT-PCR in Delhi, but it has not been activated by Delhi government adequately. The bench further observed that “as against the testing capacity of 15,000 through RT PCR and other similar tests per day available in Delhi, the actual number of testing being conducted through this mode is still floating around 11,000 tests per day on an average.”

The bench has directed the matter to be listed on October 7 as per the request of the Delhi government.
