The Apex Court asked the Centre as to why the states like Arunachal Pradesh, which have BJP government and Centrally-administered Union Territories like Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep were not responding to its query for views on demands to enforce the law that identified religious and linguistic minorities at the state level.

Attorney General R Venkataramani sought more time to get the views of the states and UTs, which were yet to respond.

Justice S K Kaul, presiding over a three-judge bench, asked the Attorney General that when Jammu and Kashmir is administered by centre at the moment…Arunachal too has the same regim amd so is Lakshadweep…Why is the own regimes of centre government not responding… What is this?

Venkataramani told the bench that the government had filed an affidavit stating about 24 states and 6 Union Territories have already given their views. But four states – Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand—and two UTs Jammu and Kashmir and Lakshadweep, were yet to send their opinion.

The Attorney General said that they will try to get their responses and take stock of all that have come so far.

The Attorney General asked for more time for this. Justice Kaul responded by saying, that he believes that the ones who havent replied so far have nothing to say.
