The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Tripura Police to enhance security arrangements for the smooth conduct of municipal polls on November 25 and the declaration of results while declining the Trinamool Congress plea to postpone the elections over alleged acts of violence and intimidation against TMC workers

Supreme Court bench issued notice in a plea challenging the invocation of UAPA act, 1967 by the State of Tripura against member of the Civil Society including Advocates and Journalist who have documented and spoken out against the targeted atrocities in a communal violence in the State.

Both Samridhi and Swarna were arrested on Sunday for spreading fake news on social media that a mosque was burnt in the Gomati district of Tripura and a copy of the Quran was damaged. They were reporting on religious tensions in Tripura following recent attacks on mosques and properties owned by Muslims.
