The Union Government told the Supreme Court that though the power is vested with the Central Government to notify minorities , the stand to be formulated by the Central Government with regard to issues raised in the group of petitions will be finalized after having a wide consultation with the State Governments and other stakeholders.
Supreme Court heard the PIL filed by visually impaired lawyer and disability rights activist M. Karpagam from Chennai through Advocate (AOR) Nupur Kumar in which all states are parties.
Supreme Court said, "This court is of the opinion that these particulars are essential because the protection officers - like the magistrates who are tasked to the implementation of the enactment, have been conceived as the backbone to effectuate the law, enacted with laudable objectives, by Parliament."
The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea filed by a Class 12 student in Delhi particularly on account of the indecision and vacillation on the part of the Union Government and governments of several states and union territories, including the AAP government
