{"id":235299,"date":"2021-12-01T14:46:59","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T09:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/?p=235299"},"modified":"2022-02-10T18:13:48","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T12:43:48","slug":"sudha-bhardwaj-bail-bhima-koregaon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/top-news-of-the-day\/news\/sudha-bhardwaj-bail-bhima-koregaon\/","title":{"rendered":"Bhima Koregaon case: Bombay High Court grants default bail to Sudha Bhardwaj,  refuses bail to 8 others"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/bombay-high-court\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/bombay-high-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bombay High <\/a>Court on Wednesday granted default bail to lawyer-activist Sudha Bhardwaj in the Bhima Koregaon case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A division bench of Justices SS Shinde and NJ Jamadar had reserved Bharadwaj&#8217;s bail plea for judgement on August 4 and the criminal application by 8 others on September 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the Court rejected the bail applications of 8 other accused Sudhir Dawale, Dr P Varavara Rao, Rona Wilson, Advocate Surendra Gadling, Professor Shoma sen, Mahesh Raut, Vernon Gonsalves and Aruna Ferreira.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court has rejected the bail of the other 8 accused saying that they had not filed a default bail plea at the correct time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court has directed Sudha Bhardwaj to appear for NIA court before December 8 to decide on bail conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bharadwaj, who was arrested on August 28, 2018, and has been in custody for over 3 years, had filed a plea in the Bombay High Court for the default bail but, however, the judge was not designated to hear cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Also Read: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/charting-a-new-course\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.indialegallive.com\/charting-a-new-course\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Charting a New Course<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The petitioners contended that the Pune sessions court was not authorised to take cognisance of the case against them in 2018-19.
